It was the next day that Mr. Beri brought someone to take care of her. He spoke to her and asked her never to leave Jaila's side without anyone around for more than five minutes, except it was very urgent. While they were waiting in the hospital for two weeks for the doctor to discharge them.
Three days later, Mr. Beri received a call at home while he was preparing to go to the hospital,
"Hello,"
"Good day sir," the caller greeted and he responded, "Good day sir,"
"Am I speaking with Mr. Beri,"
"Of course,"
"I am Barrister Ngwa, my client is claiming paternity over his children you are trying to steal from his girlfriend and I am in charge of following the appropriate legal procedure. So see you soon."
"Who again?" He was confused.
There was nothing he could do, because that day Jaila was to be discharged from the hospital. While she was being discharged the doctor instructed Mr. Beri and his wife,
"Don't allow her to do any tedious task till the stitches on her stomach are completely healed. She should not carry heavy objects nor bend down scrubbing. The only thing she can do should just be a light task. Like fixing the bed, sitting down and holding her baby just for a short while on her lap."
"Does that mean she needs assistance at home?" Mr. Beri inquired and the doctor immediately confirmed, "Yes, very much sir."
Verona was there and her husband insisted, "Darling, did you hear what the doctor said?"
"Of course, I am not deaf." she was hurting within.
"In that case, the helper I hired to assist her, will follow us to the house and continue till she becomes strong."
So he drove, Verona, the helper, Jaila and her twins back home and instructed everyone to avoid giving her any task or even stressing her. By the weekend, Mr. Beri stayed by the house, she was treated well, till Monday that he resumed work and couldn't even celebrate or inform his employees that he had become a father.
While he was in the office, his wife called the new house helper and sent her on a long errand. So when she was gone, Verona got Jaila from bed and instructed,
"What are you still doing in bed you lazy thwart, get up fast,"
She got up, and was ordered, "Now pick the rag and go scrub the floor, I have sent Abigail."
"I am weak and my stomach is still painful,"
"You don't expect me to pick up the rag and start scrubbing the dirty floor. That was the reason you were employed here, not as a nursing mom. So don't even provoke me."
A few minutes later she started scrubbing, the twins got up from sleep and started whimpering. She couldn't bear hearing her children crying, so she pleaded, "Please madam, let me just breast feed them so they can stop crying."
"Leave them there, is it blood that is coming from their eyes,"
"Please madam,"
"Don't just dare me."
Jaila struggled with the pains on her stomach, cleaning the floor and Verona intentionally carried the mud on her shoes from outside and trampled on the floor she had cleaned, causing her more pain to return back from where she had dirtied with her feet. She enjoyed causing her pain and gloated over her agony. But Jaila fought, and tried not to injure her stitches. But when Mr. Beri returned back his wife pretended to be kind to her.
By the weekend Mr. Beri was chilling besides the twins who were on their crib chuckling. That was when he spoke to himself, "How I wish this bouncing baby boys were mine."
While he was still thinking, the gateman walked in and told him,
"Sir, there is a boy and man outside to see you,"
"Who are they?"
"I don't know sir,"
"If they don't look harmful, bring them in."
The gateman walked out and in a few minutes he came back followed by a man dressed in suit and Fanla, Jaila's boyfriend.
